The 7th edition of the annual Ms. /co/ tournament started on September 13th, 2024. Due to certain events, this is the first major tournament since Ms. /co/ 2021 to not have NightShiftAnon as a host.

The Elite Eight of this tournament was a mix of old favorites and new blood. Returning girls included top seed ENA, Queen Tyr'ahnee (both returning off 2022), Jucika, Kim Possible (both back from 2020), and Frankie Foster (making a long-awaited return from 2019). With this, Tyr'ahnee and Kim simultaneously became the second Ms. /co/ candidates to make three Elite Eight line-ups, following Chel as the first. New additions included Blackfire from Teen Titans, Marceline from Adventure Time, and Pomni from The Amazing Digital Circus. The fourth round's results were incredibly close for most matches, and resulted in several upsets. The most prolific of these was Pomni ending the perfect Elite Eight streak for Chel. Other popular picks for the tournament taken out there included Jessica Rabbit, Tinkerbell, and Gwenpool.

Despite a smooth first four rounds, the Ms. /co/ curse would unfortunately strike again during quarterfinals after the hosts had to delay the round's results in response to blatant irregularities in voting noticed by Spideranon !!ka6ooI1WG7R.[1][2] A common theory was that a certain troublemaker was behind it after posts were dug up of him promising to mass rig the polls, but this wasn't directly confirmed by the hosts. This incident led to a mixed response on the hosts' readiness and response towards this incident, and overwhelming frustration amongst tourneygoers in the aftermath. Beyond this incident, the year would also be marked by arguing around certain subjects including higher than average levels of spite toward certain candidates, some anons expressing issues towards /tnt/'s presence alongside the tournaments, and a general ongoing debate on "boomer vs. zoomer" picks throughout the whole tournament.

After a range of emotions throughout the tournament, the finals ended up being between an old favorite in Frankie and a surprisingly strong resurgence by Jucika. Despite vocal support for both girls and differing opinions on which would be the more fitting winner between the two, in the end Frankie Foster ended up as the champion of the tournament following actual support throughout the tournament and a potential desire for a more traditional winner to contrast Ms. /co/'s typically wilder champions. She was largely praised as a tournament champion, though some anons did find her win a little more bland. Despite losing, Jucika would be the first comic character to make it to finals in a major /co/ tournament after five years, and the first to originate specifically from a comic strip run.

Rules[edit]

How to nominate?[edit]

  • To nominate a character, a user must include their name, picture, and series in their post. Nominating 2 or more characters in a single post is not allowed.
  • All characters must either originate from /co/ media: Western animation and comics
  • Each valid nomination must garner at least nine (9) replies in order to qualify for the contest. These replies are only counted if they are all within a single thread, and do NOT carry over to other threads.

Eligible Nominees[edit]

  • All female /co/ characters (except those listed under "Excluded characters" shown below)
  • Any character that was allowed or has appeared in past Ms. /co/ tournaments (Grandfather Clause)
  • Characters can be any age
  • Puppets are allowed (e.g. Muppets, Sesame Street)
  • Generalization Statute: Multiple versions of the same character --- be it from various adaptations, spin-off series, or alternative universes --- are combined into a single entrant. In other words, you are voting for the entire history of that character, not just one particular iteration.
    • Example: Zatanna (DC Comics, Young Justice, DC Super Hero Girls, etc.)
  • Character Limit: Each series can only have a maximum of three (3) girls in the main bracket. These are decided by their votes in the qualifying poll. However, there is no restriction on the number of girls that can be nominated from a single series.
    • Exceptions: Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Disney core universe characters + related series (Mickey, Oswald, Goofy, and Donald)

Restrictions[edit]

  • Any character that is clearly not /co/ is not allowed (e.g. /a/nime and live action shows)
  • /v/ideo game characters that did not originate from /co/ media are not allowed
  • Real-life politicians that are portrayed as cartoon characters / caricatures are not allowed, satirical or otherwise.
  • No /mlp/ characters
  • No Board-tans
  • No "OC donut steels"
  • No meme creations (e.g. Virgin vs Chad)
  • No inanimate objects that aren't treated as distinct characters in their media of origin (based on a vote in the 2022 feedback)
  • One-Month Old Clause: Any character debuting from the 1st of the previous month to the start date are ineligible.
  • Grandfather Clause: All characters who have previously made it into Ms. /co/ or Mr. /co/lympus tournaments, and are not banned by the Elite 8 rule, are eligible to participate regardless of the above restrictions. (Examples: Dr. Eggman Dr. Eggman, Saxton Hale Saxton Hale, JFK, Wendy's, Princess Zelda)

Excluded Characters[edit]

Over a whopping 1300 girls were successful nominated.

To the surprise of many, ENA managed to grab the top seed after returning from Ms. /co/ 2022. Two Elite Eight members from that year did not return: Shirley the Medium performed poorly following her tainted reception from her previous run, and more surprisingly Mrs. Brisby failed to qualify again by seven votes despite some hype in the early tournament threads and what seemed to be a positive reception. Miss Bellum, the 4th place candidate from Ms. /co/ 2021, also failed to qualify despite returning the previous year. A lot of the best performers from qualifiers were a mix of old tournament favorites and way more recent "zoomer picks", with Pomni unsurprisingly as the top seeded newcomer following the massive attention towards The Amazing Digital Circus with its first two episodes being released. In total, 21 newcomers to the main bracket managed to qualify for the first time.

There were some results that did come off as particularly strange for one reason or another to a lot of anons. A short-term controversy arose in the thread where the results were initially announced, largely coming off some of these more surprising seeding results and the only confirmation of these seeds being from a separate document listing all of them. The hosts were originally not going to open the original qualifier form per what had become the norm, but after serious backlash towards this decision the results were eventually opened to verify the placements shared in the Google Sheets list.

Ties are resolved by series name in alphabetical order, then character name in the same order. Only the names written on the Rentry and Google Docs are considered. Characters who appear in the bracket for the first time are labeled in bold'

Side Tournaments[edit]

Both the barred and bottom 128 tournaments returned this year with new iterations.

Barred from Ms. /co/[edit]

This tournament was hosted by Mr. Sir The Guymanbro !xNDnmYN2QQ, who had changed his prior handle from previous Barred tournaments starting around the time of the /an/lympics 2024. Unlike 2023's tournaments, this one went from 32 to 64 contestants. Despite initial hype, the tournament went under the radar more compared to the previous iteration from the last Ms. /co/ tournament. The winner of this tournament was Mrs. Brisby, who had missed the main bracket to the surprise of many anons. This result was met with a mixed reception, less around the character and more around it being seen as more of a pity vote off of these circumstances. In particular, some anons had hoped a more unorthodox pick would have won out, similar to Option 1 or the Nostalgia Critic from 2023's /co/ Barred tournaments.
