Courage

Courage is the titular character and the main protagonist of the Cartoon Network TV series Courage the Cowardly Dog, created by John R. Dilworth. A small pink dog of undetermined breed, Courage was abandoned as a puppy after his parents were sent into outer space, but was adopted by Muriel Bagge. Ironically, given his name, Courage can be a genuine coward and he often expresses his distress with over-the-top, piercing shrieks. Regardless, he still goes to great lengths to protect his loved ones, outsmarting the villains most of the time.

Courage has traditionally been considered an excellent performer in Mr. /co/lympus, both in part due to his status as a classic Cartoon Network character and for his flawed yet compassionate, friendly and honorable personality.

Tournament History

As a 75th seed in his first appearance during the Mr. /co/lympus 2018 tournament, Courage managed to reach the Round 4 stage without much trouble save for a close encounter with another future elite contestant Skeletor. Unfortunately, he wouldn't make it to quarterfinals due to the intrusion of Captain America, barely missing by a single vote difference. Questions on the validity of this outcome would arise following revelations related to the tournament's host, but nonetheless it did stick in the end.

Returning in 2019, Courage came in with a strong run that had him defeating tougher opponents in Professor Utonium and Bugs Bunny before finally losing out to fellow Cartoon Network icon Grim in the semi-finals. In the end, he would end up with an honorable third place finish after defeating Hank Hill in the consolation round held alongside finals. Despite making a new record high seed (#2) in his return during the 2021 contest, Courage was eliminated right before he could make the Top 8 once again at the hands of beloved comic book representative J. Jonah Jameson.

Courage returned in Mr. /co/lympus 2022 and ended up earning the top seed of the entire selection of candidates, in spite (or perhaps because) of the year's Ms. /co/ controversy surrounding Shirley the Medium. He did not face seed #128, Dr. Livesey, due to the implementation of a randomized bracket in the first round. That said, despite at least a couple of respectable opponents he ended up taking every match easily all the way until the Elite Eight. It became a running joke that he had made it so far without any campaigning, despite the fact Courage did in fact get several pieces of OC and some decent presence from his supporters in the threads. He ended up narrowly taking down Squidward in the quarterfinals before he was finally defeated by Carl Brutananadilewski in the semi-finals. A number of anons had expected a Courage vs. Daffy finale as a high possibility since the tournament began and were shocked by the actual results going into the finals. Courage would place 3rd in the consolation round just like he did in 2019.

After yet another break, Courage would make another strong return during Mr. /co/lympus 2024. This time, support around the character took off stronger in early threads and dispelled a lot of the silent arguments that had previously been built up around him. Notably, he had one particularly active artist who had begun to contribute quality original art every round. While his first two rounds were largely a breeze, an incident did rise up during the first round when someone began to falseflag as Courage and claim he liked "big black cocks". In response, several actual Courage supporters came out to make fun of the falseflagger in a humorous arc that culminated in the apparent conclusion that these posts had spawned from a grotesque doppelganger of Courage. As he advanced through the bracket, Courage would end up in a very tough match-up against a re-energized Dr. Doofenshmirtz during the top 16. Many considered this match-up a nail-biter, with general love for both characters and their campaigning. In the end, Courage would make his third Elite Eight appearance after a close bout. He managed a strong win against Plankton, but would end up bowing yet again during the semi-finals to long-awaited Elite Eight newcomer Kermit the Frog. While blocked from finals yet again and losing his 3rd place streak to Popeye, many still gave high remarks to Courage's run during the tournament.

The cowardly dog will able to compete yet again in Mr. /co/lympus 2026.
