Omni-Man
Omni-Man is a fictional superhero character who mainly appears in the Image Comics series Invincible. He is a "Viltrumite", an alien superhuman race from the planet Viltrum, and is the father of the eponymous protagonist also known as Mark Grayson.
Omni-Man rose to further popularity following the release of the 2021 animated TV adaptation, where he is voiced by J.K. Simmons. Fans immediately noticed his near-identical resemblance to J. Jonah Jameson, one of Simmons' most famous roles. The character also spawned many internet memes.
Not to be confused with Dick Grayson from DC Comics.
Tournament History[edit]
Due to Omni-Man's rise to mainstream popularity during the first half of 2021 thanks to the animated adaptation of Invincible, many were expectant to see the Viltrumite make a deep run into his debut in the tournament, confident that the amount of memes and discussion generated through the year would be enough to hoard the votes necessary for him to at least reach the Sweet-16. However, Omni-Man would immediately get stomped by the tournament veteran Uncle Iroh in the first round. Omni-Man's disappointing performance compared to the expectations that voters had placed upon him can serve as a reminder that recency is not always enough to guarantee a contestant's success, as people will favor older characters more often than not.
Omni-Man's reputation as a jobber would be reinforced in the following tournaments, with 2022 seeing him lose round 1 to /co/ meme Mung Daal in an admittedly close match, though he would lose a more decisive round 1 match to Bender in 2023. Omni-Man in 2023 in particular was more notable for his appearances in that year's Ms. /co/ competition where an Omni-Man poster would ally himself with various girls, albeit proving to be a notoriously unreliable ally as he would frequently abandon his chosen girl in favor of another as seen when he would go back and forth between ditching Eris and Wuya for each other, though nobody wanted to be associated with a two-faced simp and he himself was abandoned by the remaining characters.
