Captain America
Captain America is a character from comic books published by Marvel Comics, created in 1941 by cartoonists Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. Originally conceived as a patriotic superhero who fights the Axis Powers during World War II, Captain America is the alter-ego of Steve Rogers, a physically weak college-age student who volunteered to enlist in USA's Armed Forces. He was selected as a subject in the army's super-soldier program, which cured his sicknesses and transformed him into a man possessing peak physical condition. Cap's signature weapon is a shield, initially shaped like a heater shield before being replaced with the now-iconic circular design, made of vibranium and thus near-indestructible. In the present day however, the superhero is mostly known for his incarnation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe /tv/ installments (portrayed by Chris Evans), where he serves as the leader of the Avengers. Captain America is one of the most popular superheroes of all time because of his pure patriotic energy.
Tournament History[edit]
He first appeared in Mr. /co/lympus 2018 as one of the best-seeded comic characters, advancing all the way into the finals where he was defeated by Johnny Bravo. However, in a somewhat complicated affair, Cap's run became discredited by many anons. At first Cap was declared the winner of the tournament. After the results of the final were revealed the tournament host was asked to post the numbers of the matches directly from google. When the host posted it the numbers of the 3rd place match and the 1st place match appeared to be switched from the declared results. The host quickly deleted his post and explained that Bravo had in fact won, but that he swapped the results because he had found Bravo's numbers had a suspicious surge near the end and was waiting for the riggers to reveal themselves. This was a somewhat strange excuse especially considering the number of surge votes that the host claimed Bravo received would not have changed the outcome anyway. The host then claimed it was a "joke". The controversy heightened when it was then revealed the host had personally nominated and supported Captain America. Furthermore, Cap had also notably won by razor-thin margins against other favorites. All this caused some users to accuse the host of rigging the contest in favor of the superhero and creating a flimsy excuse to cover up a gaff that exposed himself. It threw a taint for many on the year as Cap's entire run was put into question. As a result, Cap was essentially declared a "persona non grata" in subsequent Mr. /co/lympus editions, and is yet to make a return to the main bracket since then.
