Max (Sam & Max)

Max is one of the two titular characters of the Sam & Max franchise created by Steve Purcell. Having originally appared in a 1987 comic book series, the character has since been the subject of a graphic adventure video game developed by LucasArts, a television series, and a series of episodic adventure games developed by Telltale Games.

Max is an anthropomorphic "hyperkinetic, three-foot rabbity thing". His appearance is generally cute and cuddly, but contrasted by a reckless, impulsive, indulgent and destructive personality, being the source of much of the franchise's humor. Max enjoys extreme violence, and prefers to solve problems aggressively in contrast to his partner and friend Sam, enacting random violence while making sarcastic remarks. In other words, he is a menace to society and a war criminal. He's lucky he's cute.

Max earned his first /co/mpetition victory in the inaugural 2019 Tag-Team tournament.

Tournament History

Mr. /co/lympus

Due to the franchise's relative obscurity and lower presence status on the board, Max in earlier years could have been described as a classic example of "tournament fodder", being popular enough to qualify and even warrant some campaigning, but never enough to go past the first round. His first two bouts were in 2019 and 2021, where he was unlucky enough to be paired against an Elite Eight member in the first round both times.

Max would return once more for Mr. /co/lympus 2022. Despite the usual expectations for him, he outperformed them and finally escaped the first round curse. While his first two rounds were not seen as too remarkable, he gained considerably more attention after taking down Dr. Livesey in the third round. He sustained an even more spectacular victory against Spear from Primal, even with the show's finale having only aired weeks before the tournament. These victories led some to label Max as the "FotM (Flavor of the Month) Killer". His victory against Spear led him to finally make the Elite Eight for the first time, where he would finally lose to finalist Carl Brutananadilewski.

King of /v/

Due to his vidya appearances which he is prominently known for, Max was listed as one of the characters that anons could vote to add to the whitelist for King of /v/ 2022. He proved one of the most agreeable choices, with some anons claiming he should've been allowed without a whitelist in the first place. Max would qualify and win the first round against Not Important but then lose to Duke Nukem.

Though Max was voted to be kept in the whitelist, he was never nominated for King of /v/ 2023.

Tag-Team

Outside of the main tournaments, Max is notable for having won the inaugural 2019 Tag-Team contest alongside Sam, forming the Freelance Police duo. Ironically enough, the two of them had never made it into the bracket in the same year until 2022.
