Dale Gribble
Dale Gribble is a character from the 1997 Fox series King of the Hill. He is one of Hank Hill’s closest friends who runs an extermination business, in addition to being a bounty hunter and a paranoid believer of conspiracy theories and urban legends, mostly surrounding the government. Despite his rampant paranoia, he is humorously oblivious to the fact that his wife had an affair with local masseur John Redcorn for 15 years, with Dale’s legal son Joseph being the result of said entanglement. He often goes by the alias "Rusty Shackleford" whenever he doesn't want his real name to be known.
Dale has been a frequent competitor in the Mr. /co/lympus tournaments and is commonly regarded as King of the Hill’s second strongest character next to Hank. Originally seen as a midcarder, Dale would eventually make it to the Elite Eight in 2023.
Tournament History
Dale first appeared in Mr. /co/lympus 2018 as the 98th seed where he beat The Monarch and Ford Pines before falling to 2nd seed Samurai Jack in Round 3. He came back for 2019 where he beat Hiccup before losing to Eustace in Round 2. After missing out in 2020 due to not getting enough votes in qualifiers, Dale returned to the bracket in 2021 and defeated Batman and Emmet from The Lego Movie before bowing out to Kermit the Frog in Round 3.
2022 marked a boost of anon interest in Dale making a deep run in the tournaments. While he was able to beat Hobbes in Round 1, he was the subject of a tie with Jack Skellington in Round 2, with Dale only winning because he had a higher seed of #21 compared to Jack's #24. After beating Ed in Round 3, he went on to form an unlikely friendship with Xavier in Round 4 before losing to him, with Dale supporters taking the loss well due to the camaraderie that round that mostly stemmed from the usage of dialogue-heavy humor found in both King of the Hill and Xavier: Renegade Angel.
2023 was Dale’s best performance in Mr. /co/lympus history thus far, although it was speculated among anons that his run was defined by the tragic passing of his voice actor, Johnny Hardwick, which happened two months prior to the tournament. His first match coincidentally pitted him against fellow King of the Hill character Boomhauer, in which Dale won by a whopping 86.8% of the votes, the biggest blowout in the tournament. Dale went on to breeze through his next opponents with relative ease, including Aku, Black Hat, and Scrooge McDuck before reaching his first entrance into the Elite Eight, finally joining Hank that year. This would be his peak for the rest of the tournament as he would then lose to tournament darkhorse Optimus Prime in the quarterfinals, with his loss being attributed to anons' concerns with the possibility of having a King of the Hill themed finale against Hank and the prospect of Dale being a "pity win" due to Johnny Hardwick's passing. Dale would finish his run by placing 7th in the consolation round.
Dale will be eligible to compete again in 2025.
