Lord Farquaad
Lord Farquaad is the main antagonist of DreamWorks’ 2001 computer-animated film Shrek. The short, but megalomaniac ruler of Duloc who strives for perfection, Farquaad seeks to rid his kingdom of all Fairy Tale creatures and marry a princess in order to become a legitimate king, initially setting his sights on the captive Princess Fiona. Unwilling to perform the task of rescuing the princess himself, Farquaad grants Shrek the honor of saving Fiona from a tower guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. After a series of events that led to his death, Farquaad occasionally appears as a ghost in supplemental material following the events of the film.
In the Mr. /co/lympus Tournaments, Farquaad has proven himself to be a skillful candidate thanks to a dedicated campaign from his supporters, such as roleplaying posts where he would make grandiose speeches to the populace of his kingdom regarding his opponents similar to his source material. Despite having a few tournament appearances to his name, Farquaad became one of the lucky contestants to qualify for Elite Eight in 2023.
Tournament History Edit
2022 Edit
After four years of not qualifying in the previous tournaments, Farquaad made a surprise appearance in Mr. /co/lympus 2022 as the 73rd seed, beating out fellow Shrek characters such as Donkey and Puss in Boots to become 2nd representative of the franchise in Mr. /co/lympus. Farquaad did relatively well for a newcomer, beating out JFK from Clone High in round 1 and Yellow Guy from Don’t Hug Me, I’m Scared in round 2. Farquaad’s run was abruptly foiled by Spider-Man in round 3, eliminating the would-be king in the running that year.
2023 Edit
Despite having a notable presence in the last tournament, anons were speculating how Farquaad would fare in Mr. /co/lympus 2023. The foremost reason being that the release of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish caused a substantial boost of interest in the Shrek franchise, with characters from the film expected to make the bracket and fill the 3 characters per series limit for Shrek, leaving Farquaad’s chances in doubt. After anons pointed to Dragon’s snub out of the bracket in Ms. /co/ 2023 in favor of Fiona and two characters from The Last Wish, a spin-off clause was implemented in time for Mr. /co/lympus 2023 following a vote and Farquaad returned at a higher 45th seed, albeit the lowest of the five Shrek/Puss in Boots characters in the tournament.
Farquaad performed marginally better this time around, beating LazyTown’s Robbie Rotten in round 1, Bender in round 2 by a narrow 4 votes, and former Elite Eight member Mr. Incredible in round 3 in his biggest victory yet. The fourth round of the tournament pitted him against Looney Tunes powerhouse Bugs Bunny, who intriguingly lost to Shrek the previous year. Thanks to a louder campaign when compared to Bugs' hornyposting, Farquaad’s place in the Elite Eight was solidified after his victory against Bugs, becoming the first Shrek character to accomplish the feat.
Farquaad’s Cinderella run came to an end when he was matched up against eventual champion Skeletor in the quarter-finals. Farquaad ultimately placed 8th in the consolation round, likely as a result of his niche nature compared to the other Elite Eight finalists that year.
The ruler of Duloc will be eligible to compete again in 2025.
