Doc Louis
Doc Louis is the deuteragonist of Nintendo’s Punch-Out!! franchise. He is the former heavyweight champion of the World Video Boxing Association (WVBA) who became the boxing trainer of Little Mac following a chance encounter with him. His training methods include making Mac chase him through New York City while riding on a bike and offering tips to Mac regarding his opponents in between boxing rounds. He is also known as the inventor of Mac's signature Star Punch and has an obsession with all things chocolate, so much so that he goes berserk if one were to punch a chocolate bar out of his hand.
Outside of King of /v/, Doc is notable for his victory in the 2024 iteration of the /v/ Co-op tournament.
Tournament History[edit]
King of /v/[edit]
Doc was among the first 128 contestants in the first iteration of the King of /v/ tournament but did not have a seed assigned to him due to the "first come, first serve" nature of the nominations. Doc did well for his first go, beating out Professor Layton in round 1 and Sub-Zero in round 2 before getting knocked out by Jack Frost in round 3.
Despite his performance in 2019, Doc has not qualified for King of /v/ since then but is nonetheless eligible for King of /v/ 2024.
Co-op[edit]
Instead, Doc's best performance comes from Co-op 2024 where he and Mac qualified as the 8th seed under the team name “Knockout Kings”. Their bracket is noted by a few anons to be dominated exclusively by the biggest villains in gaming, where Mac and Doc won the majority of them in blowouts, barring two close calls against The Rightful Kings of /v/ in the first round and Lords of Chaos in semifinals. The final round was a showdown between the Knockout Kings and #1 seed team Partners in Crime, consisting of Wario and Waluigi. Despite the Partners ramping up their campaign for the finals, a far cry from losing by exactly one vote in round 1 of Co-op 2023, the Knockout Kings were able to come out on top with a decisive 77% of the vote, a fitting finale for what anons dubbed a “protagonist run” for Mac and Doc. In addition, certain anons were quick to point out that the victory coincidentally fell on the 40th anniversary of the Punch-Out!! series, which originated from the arcade title of the same name in 1984.
To complement Mac's silent nature, Doc was known for roleplay posts where he talks to Mac about his opponents in the ring in a similar vein to the Punch-Out!! intermissions, detailing their foes' prior history and notable weak points for Mac to exploit. This was cited by anons to be a deciding factor in the Knockout Kings' victory as while Mac was the centerpiece for the team's visual OC, Doc's advice fulfilled the writing criteria that was considered to be Mac's primary weakness in the tournaments.
