Little Mac
Little Mac is the protagonist of Nintendo’s Punch-Out!! franchise. He is a short, yet scrappy boxer from the Bronx who became the protégé of ex-heavyweight boxing champion Doc Louis. After adhering to Doc’s training regimen, he enters the World Video Boxing Association (WVBA) where he takes on fighters who are typically far above his height and weight class, in which he defies all odds by winning the three circuits and defending his title after becoming the world champion. His past knockouts in the boxing ring include notorious moon-puncher Donkey Kong and notorious ear-biter Mike Tyson.
Outside of King of /v/, Mac is notable for his victory in the 2024 iteration of the /v/ Co-op tournament.
Tournament History[edit]
King of /v/[edit]
Despite being the protagonist of the Punch-Out!! games, Mac was rarely nominated for the King of /v/ tournaments, where he was usually sidelined in favor of Doc Louis, Super Macho Man, and even Mike Tyson through a whitelist vote. After previously only being nominated in 2020, Mac would finally qualify for King of /v/ 2023 as the sole Punch-Out!! representative that year. This would be his only achievement that year as he would go on to lose the first round to Dagoth Ur of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind fame, although he would find some success in the losers’ bracket by winning against Conker and Sans before falling to King Dedede.
Now in 2024, Mac's success in that year's Co-op tournament seems to have translated into a better main tournament showing, as this time he made it past the first round in his match against Big Daddy. Next in the ring he faced off against Chrono Trigger's Frog, who proved an even match with a sizable backing of his own. Mac pulled off a close win, but was knocked out by Heavy's Killer Gloves of Boxing in the third round.
Co-op[edit]
Mac was able to show off his true potential in the tournaments when he and Doc Louis qualified in Co-op 2024 as the 8th seed under the team name “Knockout Kings”. Their bracket is noted by a few anons to be dominated exclusively by the biggest villains in gaming, where Mac and Doc won the majority of them in blowouts, barring two close calls against The Rightful Kings of /v/ in the first round and Lords of Chaos in semifinals. The final round was a showdown between the Knockout Kings and #1 seed team Partners in Crime, consisting of Wario and Waluigi. Despite the Partners ramping up their campaign for the finals, a far cry from losing by exactly one vote in Round 1 of Co-op 2023, the Knockout Kings were able to come out on top with a decisive 77% of the vote, a fitting finale for what anons dubbed a “protagonist run” for Mac and Doc. In addition, certain anons were quick to point out that the victory coincidentally fell on the 40th anniversary of the Punch-Out!! series, which originated from the arcade title of the same name in 1984.
The general consensus among anons was that the Knockout Kings were seen as admirable winners for their legacy and team synergy in comparison to the retrospective contention of the Glamgals (Roxanne Wolf and Glamrock Chica) winning the inaugural Co-op tournament a year prior. Despite this, a few anons have joked that the Glamgals were the Knockout Kings’ “prize” for winning the tournament, owing to Mac and Roxanne’s aspirations to become “the best” and Doc and Chica’s affinity for certain types of food (chocolate and pizza respectively).
