The Hex Maniac is a class of non-playable opponent Trainers from the Pokémon video game series. Dressed in witch garbs or in long black dresses, these young girls employ Psychic- and Ghost-type Pokémon, and are commonly encountered in areas associated with horror and the occult. Hex Maniacs only appear in Generations III[a 1] and VI[a 2].
In the Pokémon fandom, the Hex Maniac is perhaps the most popular NPC class due to their "creepy cute" design and strange, obsessive personality. They are primarily known for being depicted with massive breasts and thick legs in many fan arts, which is partly influenced by the "big tiddy goth gf" meme. On /v/ specifically, Hex Maniacs regularly get threads dedicated to them, which as one might guess, are filled pretty much entirely with thicc fapbait images and fetish posts.
For the sake of clarity Hex Maniac will be referred to in this page as a single entity, reflecting the trainer type being entered as a single candidate in the Queen of /v/ tournaments, however "Hex Maniac" remains a broad type of Pokémon NPCs rather than any one character in particular.
Tournament History edit
Hex Maniac has appeared in Queen of /v/ 2021 and 2022. In the former she managed to take out Metal Slug's Eri Kasamoto as well as Angela from Lobotomy Corporation before being defeated by Mega Man waifu Tron Bonne.
In 2022 she saw a deeper run, scoring decisive victories against Kaine, 2021's Literally Who Award recipient Pixie, and Resident Evil's Jill Valentine, before meeting her round 4 end to Maya Fey in a battle of the occult. Hex Maniac has since become a controversial pick since, though she has received a fair amount of OC and vocal supporters, it's generally recognized the majority of her popularity comes from off-model fanarts rather than any character she might have. She is especially divisive among tourney Pokémon fans, with a vocal faction among Pokefags lamenting one of their series limit slots being taken by what they see as a "boring coomer vote".
The aforementioned sentiment followed her into the start of Queen of /v/ 2023, especially when Hex once again was seeded the highest among the Pokémon picks, resulting in seethe from some Pokefags as well as a falseflag against her in early rounds involving AI images. However through the help of a dedicated drawfag's fan campaigning that pumped out over 40 pieces of OC specific to her various matchups and anon replies in the threads, general opinion turned in Hex's favor. Though this did not prevent her from losing round 2 to the eventual champion Curly Brace, it assisted her Loser's Bracket run which lasted all the way until the semifinals where she lost a 5-way match to SHODAN by a margin of 1 percent.
Hex Maniac entered into the 2024 tournament with an 11 seed. The aforementioned drawfag's campaign would continue, pumping out a massive rate of OC per round, often multiple drawings per thread along with a few contributions from other artists this time as well. Along with the usual annoyance among Pokefags of a "non-character" taking up one of their series limit slots, as well as increased debates over Hex's status as a candidate due to being an NPC type and not an individual character, there was also some level of annoyance regarding Hex receiving the Nigger Buff due to her poll picture being a piece of the particular drawfag's tournament campaign art. This further tied into a broader controversy present throughout her tournament run accusing the Hex Maniac candidate entered into the tournament of merely being the drawfag's out of character "self-insert" or Original Character.
Nonetheless things started off well for Hex as she easily defeated the meme pick Scout's Mom. In round two she entered into a Pokémon battle against Gardevoir, pitting both "factions" of Pokefags against each other, with Hexfags ultimately coming out on top; in true Pokémon fashion Gardevoir would be "captured" and recruited as an ally of Hex for the rest of her campaign. She entered into a grudge match against Maya Fey in the third round, which she won. Around this time Hex would be involved in arguably one of the biggest contributors to the degrading quality of the tournament in which Hex's opponents would be deliberately and systematically targeted by a series of vicious and unrelenting falseflag attacks; though this was at first attributed to spiteful supporters of the shitpost candidate Bazz (who Maya had defeated in an earlier round) blame began to shift to Hex Maniac supporters as the falseflags and smear campaigns greatly intensified against her round 4 opponent Zelda. These falseflags often included framing Hex's opponent and her opponents supporters as being "reddit", loving BBC, being /co/ tourists, and on top of this her opponents would often also have AI generated images "campaigned" for them, among other spite and smear campaign tactics which would nearly overtake entire threads.
This continued into Hex's quarterfinals match with Baiken, which was further stoked by a series of OC depicting Baiken acting as a mouthpiece scolding anons for their behavior in the threads and praising Hex for campaign efforts. This along with the aforementioned controversy about the Hex Maniac contestant being accused of being a stand-in self-insert caused large backlash, with some anons being concerned about the amount of vitriol directed towards Hexfags as a result of the many controversies surrounding the candidate. The sheer volume of falseflagging and smear campaigns being attributed to Hexfags further attracted shitposters and disillusioned anons who began pushing for Hex to win out of spite as the "chaos" pick to cause the maximum amount of seethe possible. The vitriol and salt around Hex came to a head when one angry user drew a picture of Hex on paper and took a shit on it, posting it in the thread for anons much to the wild reactions of the thread. Perhaps cursed by this shit tribute, weighed down by the controversies and shitflinging surrounding the character, or out of simply being outmatched, Hex would lose in the semifinals to former finalist and eventual winner Madotsuki. She then scored 3rd place against Palutena by a small margin.
