Essex
Essex is a character from the Chinese gachashit Azur Lane. She is a personification of the Essex class aircraft carrier.
Essex's primary appeal on the /v/ board comes from her status as a meme, stemming from her derpy looking chibi design and her name containing the funny word "sex" in it, resulting in her often being referred to as a shortened meme version of her name, Sex.
Tournament History
Essex made her first tournament appearance in Queen of /v/ 2022 along with fellow gacha meme AK-12. As per her nature she became the subject of various meme posting during the tournament, however perhaps due to /v/'s polarized view of gachashit, she was booted out of the tournament in her match against Ranni.
She seeded better in 2023, perhaps owing to a 3000+ post sticky on /v/ being dedicated to her earlier in the year to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the real life aircraft carrier's launch, but she again jobbed the first round to Princess Peach.
In 2024 Essex became entangled in a rather large incident during the qualifiers stage in which one anon had nominated her under her actual name Essex whereas the other nominated her under her meme name Sex; due to an error from the organizers who were under the belief that "Sex" was a separate character, in a similar fashion to Neco-Arc's distinction from Arcueid Brunestud, two instances of Essex were seeded in the main bracket. When it was pointed out that this was in fact a duplicate and that "Sex" is not a separate character from "Essex", the round 1 forms were delayed as an entirely new bracket had to be created to accommodate the seed changes from Essex being removed from the list and "Sex" kept in her place, presumably due to the "Sex" entry having seeded higher.
Despite all this hullabaloo surrounding Essex (or "Sex" as she was running as), she proceeded to job in the first round again, this time to future runner-up Ayla.
Now in Queen of /v/ 2025, Essex has claimed her first victory against FNAF pick Roxanne Wolf, a matchup which played to her favor as anti-furry spite outweighed anti-gacha spite. She lost the proceeding round to Kanna from Blaster Master Zero.
