SHODAN
SHODAN is the rogue AI antagonist of the System Shock series.
Tournament History
SHODAN first appeared in Queen of /v/ 2020, being matched against Pyra in the first round. This match ended up as a dead tie, however, as SHODAN had the lower seed, she lost the tiebreaker and was eliminated.
Following this defeat, SHODAN seemingly went into hibernation mode for the next couple years, as she did not reappear in a tournament until 2023. This was a much more hyped year for the System Shock antagonist, owing in large part to the release of the System Shock remake that had come out earlier in 2023. As such, SHODAN was a popular subject of tournament fanart that helped her qualify once more into the tournament, as well as eliminating Lucifer from Helltaker in the first round. She was matched against returning Elite Eight member Roll in the second round; a rather intense match ensued featuring numerous fanart from both sides, spawning a storyline that would continue throughout the rest of the tournament involving SHODAN launching a takeover of Roll's robotic body and adapting it for herself.
SHODAN was narrowly eliminated, however this proved only the beginning as she became one of the starring players in the Losers Bracket. Owing to the continued efforts of her supporters and the positive reception of her campaign, SHODAN won a series of matches (including several 4-ways) in this off-shoot bracket all the way to the Finals. As award for winning the Losers Bracket, SHODAN was given the honorary "9th place" title, as well as a guaranteed spot in the main bracket for 2024. SHODAN was also involved in the non-canon "Losers Finals" and "Grand Finals" rounds, however these have no relation to the rest of the tournament and are safe to be ignored.
Still retaining some of her momentum from the previous year, SHODAN qualified yet again for Queen of /v/ 2024 and claimed a victory against Halo's Cortana in a very thematic bout. The AI would then cross paths with Pokémon trainer Misty, but despite being provided with consistent support, SHODAN would end up having another round 2 this year.
