The Princess
The Princess is a character from Slay the Princess. The protagonist is tasked with slaying her to prevent the end of the world. Depending on the player's actions, the Princess can take on over twenty different forms; each form has its own distinct appearance and personality, and every chapter revolves around whichever form the player's actions causes her to take.
Tournament History
The Princess appeared in Queen of /v/ 2023 within just two weeks of the full release of her game. Though this would normally ban a character from entering a tournament per the FOTM Clause which specifies a character must be older than one month to enter, the Princess was allowed in due to the demo of her game having released a year earlier in August 2022. This recency boost helped her to qualify within the top 10 seeds, however the recency of a release being the double edged sword that it is for characters in these tournaments, this was also the cause of backlash from anons criticizing her for her "Flavor of the Month" status, with further debates sparking over whether or not demos should count for the FOTM clause.
Princess's first match was rather thematically against The Queen from Deltarune, incidentally another character whose eligibility was called into question (in Queen's case, due to overfilling the Undertale/Deltarune series limit). Princess triumphed over Queen, only to be met by Shantae in the next round. Given Shantae's inherent popularity within the Queen /v/ tournaments on top of the controversies already weighing Princess down, she was eliminated.
The Princess's 2024 tournament entry theoretically saw her unburdened by last year's FotM debacle, though she did again receive a boost in the form of the game's The Pristine Cut update, which had released a couple weeks earlier. She started the tournament with a round 1 victory against the Shin Megami Tensei demon Alice, followed by a round two matchup against the notorious "silent but deadly" candidate 2B. Owing to the Princess's consistent stream of fanart and thread support she was able to overcome her opponent, leading her into another victory against Franziska von Karma.
Her round 4 match was against the reenergized Tifa campaign, in which Princess was commonly depicted under her "The Adversary" form to match Tifa's physical brawler combat style. This proved to be one of the most heated matches of the fourth round, however despite the efforts of fans, the Princess narrowly lost to Tifa by a mere 5 votes. An official live voting graph was posted soon after the results dropped showing that the Princess had a solid lead for most of the match's running time, resulting in a range of reactions as well as shitflinging fuelled by the various chaos-inciting shitposters the tournament was inflicted with around that time. Despite narrowly missing out on the Elite Eight, many Princess fans found her run that year to be a great success due to it leading to anons trying out her game for the first time.
