The /an/lympics 2026

The /an/lympics 2026 was the fourth edition of 4chan's inter-species tournament, held on the /an/imals & Nature board. After an excruciatingly long nominations thread (approximately one month long), the tournament finally began on August 8th, 2026, ending on the 19th of the same month. If the previous sentence wasn't enough of a expectation setter, then let it be said outright: Tourneyheads on /tnt/ were not exactly hyped for another /an/lympics, and none of its previous hosts had any plans for a 2026 edition. Regardless, /an/ users made a thread asking when the next /an/lympics would begin, leading an allegedly random anon to offer his services.
Contrary to previous editions, this iteration of the /an/lympics was much, much looser in format.
First of all, the host took exactly 128 specimens and laid their bracket out himself. The criteria for acceptance was odd, to say the least, with the host outright rejecting any specimen that was not depicted by a living photo (yes, even fossils were barred). In addition, the host decided to forego the standard Google Forms questionnaire, perhaps lacking knowledge of how they work. Instead, voters were asked to vote in multiple Strawpolls per round, one for every individual match.
Reception to this year was mixed at best, with the host himself being unresponsive much of the time. Not only did the host wait literal hours between the beginning and end of each round, but he ended up shrugging off a significant Round 3 controversy, where one of the individual matches had an inflated number of votes compared to the others.
Despite the host's utter lack of competence, anons still found a way to enjoy themselves during the tournament. The Elite Eight were deemed mutually agreeable amongst the voter base, with Seals being crowned the very first non-avian winner in /an/ history.
