Tag-Team Tournament 2020

The Two's a /co/mpany Tournament 2020 is the second edition of the all-genders /co/ duos competition, hosted on the plus4chan imageboard. Nominations began December 5th at 6 PM CST. While initially intended to be a one-off tournament in 2019, enough interest was generated to have a second tournament following Mr. /co/lympus 2020 and Ms. /co/ 2020. Similar to the prior year's tournament, this tournament is ran by TagTeamAnon, a different tournament host then the official Mr. and Ms. /co/ tournaments.

The second thread of nominations were deleted by a janitor after 204 successful nominations were made on 4chan. As jantior deletions continued, it was decided to halt the tournament and resume it on plus4chan a week later, where the final total nominations were 346. The qualifier limit was also bumped from 64 to 128 due to the higher number of nominations.

An informal theme regarding the tournament is said to involve motor racing related to the Hanna-Barbera series Wacky Races and the video game Mario Kart: Double Dash. Also influenced from Mr. /co/lympus 2020 which shortly preceded it, the tournament threads were almost exclusively marked by role-playing. The teams 'Patience and Humility' and 'Jamity' in particular were created directly out of the previous tournament's role-playing story-lines.

Rules

All teams shall consist of 2 members, no more, no less. Teams do not have to be canon partners.

One show or franchise gets only 3 teams, a team of two characters from the same franchise only gets counted as 1 team. Marvel and DC are exempt from this rule. One team per character, no duplicate teams such as Johnny and Jack + Johnny and Kronk. If duplicate teams end up in the roster, highest seed in qualifiers determines the team that ends up in the final roster.

No OC characters like Grieve-tan

OP cannot nominate characters as to prevent favoritism and cheating.

Nominations must contain both characters in one photo (Doesn't have to be actual artwork, a shitty edit is fine), their respective source material, the team name. Must get eight replies to be nominated.

No caricatures of politicians, even if satire. Clone High characters are exempt from this rule. Mr./Mrs. Garrison is allowed as well, just use an image from before Season 19.

Token Rule: Vidya or non /co/ originating characters must have at least one comic series (IE: More than one issue) or cartoon to participate. No purely honorary /co/ such as Sora or Peacock. This is limited to three teams containing vidya or non /co/ originating characters.

FOTM Rule: All characters must come from a work that is at least one month old, example: Characters that debuted in a work on September 4th cannot participate in a competition that begins on October 4th

Fair Play Rule: Top 8 pairs are temporarily barred from entering the next tournament, with the number one pair being retired indefinitely. For 2020, this will be the top 4 teams from 2019 since the 2019 tournament used a 64-seed bracket

Ineligible Teams

As the prior year's tournament only had 64 qualified teams, the traditional Elite 8 was instead used to refer to the final four of that tournament, with similar but slightly altered rules. It's assumed this will change to Elite 8 following this tournament.

As such, the winning characters of the tournament (Freelance Police, composed of Sam & Max from the franchise of the same name) are permanently retired. However, the other top 4 contestants are allowed to compete, but not in the same teams from the prior year. These include Duck Dynasty composing of Daffy Duck and Donald Duck, The Wiley Eggs composing of Robotnik and Dr. Wily, and Team Samurai and Sunglasses composing of Samurai Jack and Johnny Bravo.
