Pomni is the protagonist of the indie animated series The Amazing Digital Circus, created by Gooseworx and published under Glitch Productions. The series takes place in the titular virtual circus, hosted by an AI named Caine who forcibly hosts colorful adventures for its group of circus members made up of humans that were trapped inside the game. Inspired by works like I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream, the series gradually breaks down both its six main human characters and the general consequences that arise from being trapped inside a digital application. Since the release of the show's pilot / first episode in October of 2023, it has blown up into a phenomenon online. On top of the praise towards the character, TADC's wide popularity has led to various different fan interpretations of Pomni that range in quality to put it lightly.
Tournament History[edit]
Due to The Amazing Digital Circus releasing nearly a full year before the tournament in October 2023, shortly after Ms. /co/ 2023 in which Pomni was nominated but did not qualify due to her series not being released yet, expectations were high on it making its first tournament berths during Ms. /co/ 2024. A number of anons were expecting Pomni to be a serious contender for the tournament's top seed, and while not placing THAT high she ended up with a very respectable #8 seed. This seed also made her the highest seeded newcomer of the year for both Ms. and Mr. /co/lympus, followed in second and third by fellow TADC characters Ragatha and Kinger. Despite the hype around her addition, she was a source of immediate worries and backlash due to the sheer breakout success of her show, which at the time of the tournament had only two full episodes out. Some were worried about such a new character sweeping through the bracket, and in a broader sense she became a key face of the ongoing boomer vs. zoomer discussion that was prevalent throughout the tournament. Despite this stigma, Pomni ended up having one of the most active campaigns of the tournament and managed to easily outlast both Ragatha and Gangle from her same show.
Despite not winning by the widest of margins at the start of the main tournament, Pomni nonetheless managed to make it past her first three rounds without much issue. Even from the start, however, many had already anticipated the likelihood of her being paired with tournament powerhouse Chel in the fourth round. Chel has remained not only a popular character from The Road to El Dorado for several reasons, but had also returned from her tournament run in Ms. /co/ 2022 where she was controversially denied a spot in finals despite the rigging allegations against her semi-finals opponent Shirley the Medium. This all strengthened the significance of the match-up and made this one of the primary culminations of all the boomer vs. zoomer arguments in 2024. All this also led, however, to a significant amount of falseflagging, with Chel arguably being hit the worse of the two by it. This and the relative silence from Chel's sincere supporters might have been what slightly tilted the scale towards Pomni winning and making the Elite Eight during her very first tournament run.
Despite generally being praised as a fresh Elite Eight addition, the question of how far Pomni would go at this point had become an even more serious discussion. She had no time to rest when she was up to face the former 2020 runner-up, Queen Tyr'ahnee. Out of the four quarterfinals match-ups, this was predicted to be one of the closest of the two. Issues arose at the time when the form results were supposed to open. The hosts came out to mention that apparent rigging had been discovered late into the round, and as such the results were delayed for close to two hours. Many speculated on who had been the target of this apparent rigging, with Pomni as the main suspect by anons due to her recency and the amount of vocal supporters backing her. While never confirmed directly, theories arose on at least one potential suspect attempting to rig in Pomni's favor in relation to art of her with their main. Regardless of the validity behind these theories, the final result ended up having Tyr'ahnee winning the match by a mere three votes, a very close margin between the two. While a contentious happenstance, the majority of anons were in agreement to let Pomni off the hook considering the wider circumstances. As such, she was given a respectable 6th place as voted on during the semi-finals.
In retrospect, Pomni's campaign was largely well-regarded by anons for the genuine effort put into it. With her now being banned from 2025 due to making the prior year's Elite Eight, some have speculated on potentially effective timing upon her likely return in Ms. /co/lympus 2026 due to the potential timeline of the remaining episodes for The Amazing Digital Circus being released. Time will tell how the character's reception ages, and whether she can match or even surpass her current record if she is to return to tournament participation at that time.
