Mr. /co/lympus 2022 was the fifth edition of the annual Mr. /co/ event, and the tenth character tournament overall. The competition began with the nominations on October 7, 2022, 18:00 Eastern Standard Time, and ended with the final match on October 16. As with the previous Mr. /co/lympus and Ms. /co/ 2022, the competition was primarily hosted by NightShiftAnon !!9A2duD1C25+.

The Elite Eight contestants of 2020 were all eligible to return this year. Similar to Ms. /co/ 2022, as well as both Queen and King of /v/ 2021, this tournament's own Elite Eight included three returning placers (Courage, Grim, and Daffy) alongside five newcomers: Carl Brutananadilewski, Max, Squidward Tentacles, Zorak, and Xavier. With Courage and Daffy both making the top eight, this meant that both Elite Eights for /co/ in 2022 featured characters originating from Courage the Cowardly Dog and the Looney Tunes franchise.

This was the first tournament to use a randomized bracket for round one over the seed-based ones from previous tournaments. This seemingly allowed for some very thematic matches to take place, such as the fabled Duck Match between Daffy and Donald or a match between Squidward and SpongeBob. This all coincided with the finale being between two classic Adult Swim characters, with Zorak from Space Ghost: Coast to Coast taking the crown over Carl Brutananadilewski from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

The Mr. Literally Who award was given to Dr. Livesey from Остров Сокровищ (a Soviet adaptation of Treasure Island) due to being relatively obscure in almost all /co/-relevant territories of the world prior to an influx of memes in 2022. Despite the usual nature of the award, Livesey's supporters happily accepted it. The Monarch was voted the biggest loser of the year, likely stemming from a falseflag campaign against Bugs Bunny in the first round.

How to nominate?

• To nominate a character, a user must include their name, picture, and series in their post. Nominating 2 or more characters in a single post is not allowed.
• All characters must either originate from /co/ media: Western animation and comics
• Each valid nomination must garner at least nine (9) replies in order to qualify for the contest. These replies are only counted if they are all within a single thread, and do NOT carry over to other threads.

Eligible Nominees

• All male /co/ characters (except those listed under "Excluded characters" shown below)
• Any character that was allowed or has appeared in past Mr. /co/ tournaments (Grandfather Clause)
• Characters can be any age
• Puppets are allowed (e.g. Muppets, Sesame Street)
• Generalization Statute: Multiple versions of the same character --- be it from various adaptations, spin-off series, or alternative universes --- are combined into a single entrant. In other words, you are voting for the entire history of that character, not just one particular iteration.
  • Example: Zatanna (DC Comics, Young Justice, DC Super Hero Girls, etc.)
• Character Limit: Each series can only have a maximum of three (3) males in the main bracket. These are decided by their votes in the qualifying poll. However, there is no restriction on the number of males that can be nominated from a single series.
  • Exceptions: Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Disney core universe characters + related series (Mickey, Oswald, Goofy, and Donald)

Restrictions

• Any character that is clearly not /co/ is not allowed (e.g. /a/nime and live action shows)
• /v/ideo game characters that did not originate from /co/ media are not allowed
• Real-life politicians that are portrayed as cartoon characters / caricatures are not allowed, satirical or otherwise.
• No /mlp/ characters
• No Board-tans
• No "OC donut steels"
• No meme creations (e.g. Virgin vs Chad)
• One-Month Old Clause: Any character debuting from the 1st of the previous month to the start date are ineligible.
  • Which means that new cartoons or comics released from September 1, 2022 and later cannot be nominated.
• Grandfather Clause: All characters who have previously made it into Ms. /co/ or Mr. /co/lympus tournaments, and are not banned by the Elite 8 rule, are eligible to participate regardless of the above restrictions. (Examples: Dr. Eggman Dr. Eggman, Saxton Hale Saxton Hale, JFK, Wendy's, Princess Zelda)

Excluded Characters

Elite Eight Rule: Characters appearing in the quarter-finals of the previous contest are not allowed to compete in this edition. They will be eligible for nomination next contest.

A total of 1488 nominees were entered into the qualifying poll, currently the most to date in a /co/ tournament.

Once again, votes could be edited until the qualifying round ended, allowing for corrections and campaigning in the threads. No images were used for the qualifying poll. Tiebreakers were decided by who was nominated first.

A grand total of 22 new contestants qualified for the bracket the first time. Others were returning, including six of the Elite Eight members from 2020. Tom is permanently ineligible for future tournaments as stated above, while Mr. Incredible narrowly missed out due to the tiebreaker rules. Characters who appear in the bracket for the first time are labeled in bold.

In the Semi Finals round the host NightShiftAnon asked for new questions or rules to add to the Finals poll. These questions are required to be voted on. The rules/questions asked come with premade answers from anons. The rules up for voting were, “Should mascots be allowed?”, “Should randomized brackets still be allowed?”, and “Should the current host continue hosting next year?”.

In the Finals, these questions caused a stir, more specifically the final question. Some believed voting no would result in their votes being removed due to ‘the host claiming they were rigged’, and others believed the tournament had went smoothly. In a earlier rounds drawfags had been posting smut artwork of the host in favor of him, and this was also attributed to him gaining positive reception. Posters would then ask questions on who would host next year if the current host didn’t. Several namefags/tripcodes ‘came out of the woodwork’ to offer their services. Filling the thread with attention grabbing/seeking posts, and offering new rules they would implement if they hosted. Many saw this as detrimental to the tourney’s future, viewing the situation as a power struggle. This display is believed to have caused a shift in voting, with most anons choosing to keep the current host. Reasons stated ranged from ‘NightShiftAnon redeemed himself’ to ‘There is no other good hosting option’. It was rumored to be a ‘4D chess move’ by the host, because he did not post during the round. A quote from the round was, “Nobody made a better argument to keep NSA than his detractors”.

The results of the new rules voting were yes to the Mascot rule (287 yes, 210 no), yes to randomized voting (386 yes, 111 no), and yes to keep the current host (353 yes, 144 no) with 497 voters total in the Final poll. The results of the third place match between Daffy and Courage resulted in the win for Courage (280 votes). This came with minor stir from voters, because the host mistakenly stated Courage was second place. The first place match between Carl and Zorak went to Zorak (282 votes).
