Jack Skellington
Jack Skellington is the main protagonist of the 1993 animated stop-motion musical film The Nightmare Before Christmas. Titled the "Pumpkin King", Jack is the ruler of Halloween Town, a world themed on the special holiday celebrated by the real world every October 31st. He excels at terrifying people, but does not hurt them nor do it out of malice. One day, Jack becomes bored of his duty and decides to venture into other holiday towns for a change of pace. He stumbles upon Christmas Town and decides to celebrate it, but as he fails to understand the "spirit of Christmas", his interpretation of the holiday turns out to be a nightmare in the real world. Realizing his error, Skellington returns to Halloween Town, rescues Santa Claus from the evil burlap sack kidnapper Oogey Boogey, and embraces his rightful place as the ruler of his hometown with renewed vigor.
The Nightmare Before Christmas is considered a /co/ classic and is often watched as a Christmas movie; though debates frequently break out over whether or not it is more of a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie. Likewise, Skellington himself has proved to be a very popular character due to his striking "tall, dark, and handsome" design.
Tournament History[edit]
Appearing in four Mr. /co/lympus editions since 2019, Jack is a decently-supported competitor in part owing to Mr. /co/lympus taking place in the Halloween month of October. He is usually seeded near the top, but is yet to attain reasonable success. On the other hand, Skellington earned his first /co/mpetition victory in the 2020 Tag-Team contest, which took place in December, having won the event with fellow Christmas thief and perceived rival The Grinch as the "Fake Santas".
In Mr. /co/lympus 2019, Jack was seeded 22nd but fell in the second round against Futurama's Philip J. Fry by 3 votes. Jack performed better in the following year, reaching the third round where he lost in a close match against Avatar's favorite uncle Iroh. Jack attained a new highest seed in 2021 at #8, but again failed to make a deep run befitting of his position, as he was eliminated by Moe Szyslak in round 2.
Jack returned as expected in 2022, entering at seed #24 once again and winning the first round. Many were surprised when he ended up tying with Dale Gribble in the following round, and by unfortunate circumstances he narrowly lost the tiebreaker due to Dale's slightly higher seed of #21.
Jack appeared in Mr. /co/lympus 2023 and quickly became grouped in with other spooky characters as part of the tournament's semi-unofficial Halloween alliance. He would score a decisive victory against Superman in round 1, but in round 2 was defeated in a close match by Doofenshmirtz. He then had a fairly successful and supported run in the unofficial Losers Bracket side tournament, culminating in a "Halloween Jack-Off" against Jack O'Lantern.
