'''Coraline Jones''' is the titular protagonist of Neil Gaiman's dark fantasy novella ''Coraline''. The novella has been adapted into a 2008 comic, but it is most famous for the 2009 stop-motion animated feature film directed by Henry Selick (who also directed ''The Nightmare Before Christmas'') and produced by Laika Studios. While her background differs on each adaptation (like being British on the novella and American on the movie), the story remains the same: a bored girl finds a portal to an alternate, identical world where its residents have buttons for eyes and caters to her every need. But when Coraline discovers that the entire thing is a trap for a hungry [[Other Mother|child-eating predator]], she must overcome her fears and use her wits to escape the other world.
 
==Tournament History==
Coraline is best known as the leading female stop-motion character (and often its only representative) in the [[Ms. /co/]]ntests, garnering a strong but relatively quiet support among its voters. She has made two Ms. /co/ appearances to date, starting with a 19th seeded berth in the [[Ms. /co/ 2019|2019 edition]] where she reached the third round, only to be soundly beaten by ''Avatar'' fan-favorite [[Ty Lee]].
Coraline is primarily voted for the movie, which is widely praised for its impressive, atmospheric visuals and engaging storyline. She is the leading female stop-motion representative in the [[Ms. /co/ tournaments]] with five berths since [[Ms. /co/ 2019|2019]], but her career there is best described as a a high-ranking nominee who is typically eliminated in rounds 3 or 4. Coraline's best results to date have been in [[Ms. /co/ 2020|2020]], where she took advantage of several early upsets in her bracket to sneak into round 4, where she lost to returning elite member [[Starfire]], and in [[Ms. /co/ 2023|2023]], where she was eliminated in round 4 to [[Alex (Totally Spies)|Alex]] from ''Totally Spies''.
 
Like most midcarders, Coraline has produced sporadic OC works from voters, but those that do often utilize the Other World's creepy button eyes.
Coraline returned in the [[Ms. /co/ 2020|2020 edition]] as a 25th seed, destroying the fallen [[Star Butterfly]] in round 1. She then defeated low seeds [[Roxanne]] and [[Sara Bellum]] to reach a career-best Sweet 16, where her run ended at the hands of Ms. /co/ powerhouse [[Starfire]].
